Biography:
Monir Islam is one of those very few WHO staff who worked in WHO, HQ for around 16 years, in WHO regional office twice 3 years each tour and as WHO Representative (WR) to Thailand and Namibia for around 4 years. During his stay in HQ . He have worked under 5 Director Generals ( Dr Nakajima, Dr Brundtland, Dr Lee Jong-wook, Dr Nordstrom (unelected acting) and Dr Chen). He grew up from a P5 Short Term consultant in WHO, HQ ( to join WHO, and resigned from Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Netherlands as Senior Public Health Expert reviewing proposals and advising on health Programme the Netherlands should fund in developing countries) in 1992 to a Director in 2002 without any support or push from any governments or powerful backings but my expertise, competency, dedications, results and integrity. As Director of Making Pregnancy Safer Department in HQ in 2005-10, he met and worked with Dr Tedros Ghebreyesus, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia when he was the Minister of Health. He admired and was proud of his excellent work as minister to save lives of pregnant mothers and their newborns in Ethiopia.
