Guangzhou Sport University

Biography:

Dr. [Xu] earned her Ph.D. degree in Sociology at Sun Yat-sen University in 2022. Prior to this, she received her Master’s degree in Sports Humanities and Sociology from South China Normal University in 2011, and a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sports from Xi’an University of Architecture and Technology in 2008. Currently affiliated with the Journal Center of Guangzhou Sport University, her research and professional interests bridge sociology, public health, and sports science. She has a rich background in higher education, having previously held teaching and administrative roles at Shaoguan University, Private Hualian College (where she served as Deputy Head of the Physical Education Department), and Guangzhou Huashang College.

Her research primarily focuses on the intersection of community environments, sports participation, and public health in urban China. Similar to her rigorous academic training, one line of her research seeks to understand how neighborhood environments and community governance influence residents’ health outcomes and physical activities. Employing longitudinal and multilevel data (such as CLDS and CFPS), she has published extensively in core academic journals, including Sports Science, Frontiers in Public Health, and Nutrients. Her recent work examines lifestyle-based community exposure, physical activity determinants among adolescents under the double burden of malnutrition, and the impact of neighborhood perceptions on urban residents’ sports participation. Additionally, she has co-authored a textbook on Sports Sociology, directed a provincial-level research project, and participated in two national-level grants.

Beyond her academic research, Dr. [Xu] is deeply engaged in sports practice and event organization. A dedicated professional in the sports community, she has served as a technical official and chief referee for the Guangzhou Marathon for 13 consecutive years (2012–2025) and will officiate athletics at the 15th National Games. Her organizational skills were also recognized early in her career when she was awarded an honorary certificate for her contributions to the athletics competition team at the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games. As a committed educator, she actively mentors students, guiding them to award-winning performances in teaching skill competitions for normal university students.
